7th and 8th graders are learning about the 4 steps of Art Criticism. These include description, analysis, interpretation and evaluation of a work of art. After practicing these steps through journal writing and discussion of Henri Matisse's painting, Goldfish, students are ready for their Art Criticism Cube project. Students select a masterpiece of choice, then create a 3-D art cube that incorporates renderings of the masterpiece, its focal point, and writings using the 4 steps of Art Criticism. It is fun seeing the Monet and VanGogh cubes emerging!
