(5pts) Opening greeting

(10 pts) Opening paragraph: a general description of the book, 4-5 sentences

(10 pts) Description of the setting

            -When does the story take place? (past/present/future)  Be specific, using evidence from the book, with page number

            Where does the story take place?  Be specific, using evidence from the book, with page number

(20 pts)  Third paragraph: A description of the main characters

            -how do you know they are important?

            -describe each character with one character trait (from sheet), and give specific evidence from book for evidence (must have pg number)

(30 pts)   Fourth paragraph: A description of the plot

            -This should be in order (sequential)

            -Should include beginning, middle, and end

            -Several main events in the story should be described, and why they are important

            -Problem/solution: make sure you state the main problem and how the problem was/wasn’t solved

(10 pts) Fifth paragraph: A description of the climax

            -What is the turning point of the story?

            -think of the tipping point of the see-saw…the story can go one way or the other

(10 pts) Final paragraph: A description of the theme and opinion

            Theme: What was the main theme of the story? Pick one of the 12 from the sheet

            Opinion- Would you recommend this book to a friend?  Why or why not?  Who might enjoy this story?
