A WebQuest for Grade 6 Social Studies Students

Introduction:

You have been hired by an International Travel Agency in Australia to promote a certain region of the
United States in order to attract tourists to that area.

The Task:

You will create a Prezi to promote your chosen region of the United States. Remember to organize your information about your region of choice around the 5 Themes of Geography: Location, Place, Movement, Regions and Human-Environmental Interactions. Your pay for this job will depend on the quality of the presentation. Remember your final Prezi will be read to a Grade 6 audience!

Remember the purpose of your Prezi presentation is to create interest in your region so that tourists will be encouraged to visit. As a result, your visual presentation should be colorful, attractive and informative.

The Process

Your task, which you have no other option but to accept, is to:

1. Choose a region in the United States

2. Content of your Prezi

describe the relative and absolute location of the region.
describe information about your location( Place )both Physical (landforms, weather, climate and vegetation)and Human (population, religion, culture and language).
describe the movement of the following in your region: goods (how are imports and exports moved in and out of your region?), people (population trends and changes in where people are located), ideas ( how are ideas moved from person to person).
describe the different areas of your regions (agricultural, industrial, commercial, residential, urban, rural, neighborhoods, language/nationality).
describe how humans and the environment interact in your city. Within your region, how have people adapted to the environment, modified the environment and how do people depend on the environment?

3. What your Prezi should look like

Must have a title page which includes your names, teacher's name, date and overall title-with at least two graphics related to topic( be creative!! ).
Must have at least one location for each of the five themes and up to a maximum of three per theme.
Must have citations that recognizes material that you have used, e.g. pictures that have been scanned from books, websites that you used to gather information and graphics
Must ensure that any text that you add to your presentation has to be in your own words and as concise as you can make it
Must flow fluently and not be disjointed. A reader should be able to gain an excellent understanding of your region without being troubled by unnecessary special effects. The reader must be able to navigate through the presentation easily.

Evaluation:

You will be graded on the quality and content of your presentation. Your finished product should reflect the effort you have put into it. Do your slides have text and visuals? Is the text in your own words and not just copied and pasted? Have you covered all the five themes of geography? Does your presentation have an effective flow and could another individual navigate through it with ease? See the rubric below

You will now view similiar presentations from your peers. From these you will choose 2 regions to visit. Explain in detail why you chose, in terms of the five themes of geography, these destinations.
